Abstract

A study is made on the added resistance on a ship advancing and oscillating in waves by means of the unsteady wave-pattern analysis, with an objective of elucidating the hydrodynamic relationship between the added resistance and ship-generated waves. Direct measurement of the added resistance and a comparison of the measured wave pattern with the computed one are also made. It is confirmed that the fore-front part of the wave is dominant in the prediction of the added resiatance and there are little effects of local waves and lateral position in the wave measurement.
