Description

The chemical, crystallographic and cell proliferating properties of synthetic calcium phosphates were assessed. The materials used were synthesized α-tricalcium phosphate, α-Ca^4 (PO^4)^2 O, and fluorapatite, Ca-10 (PO^4)^6 (OH, F)^2. Chemical analysis and x-ray diffraction analysis confimed that these materials possessed their respective crystal structure. Cell proliferation studies showed that these synthetic calcium phosphates do not inhibit cell proliferation. These findings suggest that these materials may be used as biomaterials for a variety of purposes.
