Description
A statistical investigation was carried out on 4, 628 orthodontic patients (1, 622 males and 3, 006 females) without cleft lip and/or palate in the Department of Orthodontics at Osaka University Dental Hospital during the 15 years from April 1978 to March 1992. The findings were as follows : 1. The residence of most patients was distributed within a 20km radius and within Osaka Prefecture. 2. The ratio between males and females was 1 : 1.9. 3. The age of most patients was ranged between seven to twelve years. Recently, the rate of the thirteen years or over was increased. The rate of the patients in the dental developmental stage IIIB was higher than that of the others. 4. The incidence of the malocclusions for males was the highest in the anterior crossbite, and in crowding of the teeth for females. For both males and females, the incidence of the anterior crossbite was decreased and that of crowding was increased year after year. 5. The rate of the Angle Class I malocclusion was the highest. The rate of skeletal 3 base malocclusions was the highest for males, and that of skeletal 1 was the highest for females.
