Ryutan-shakan-to (Long-Dan-Xie-Gan-Tang) was given to ten male patients whose main symptom was urination difficulty which occurs with Excess Syndrome (Excess-SHO) and the effect of the treatment was examined objectively by assigning an IPSS numerical value to subjective symptoms. Before and after the treatment, Qmax, average flow rate and residual ratio were measured objectively by Uroflowmetry examination. The objective findings didn't show a clear difference in some before and after the medication while in others, a comparison of subjective symptoms before and after four weeks of medication confirmed improvement. There were no particular side effects seen in the cases and this Chinese medicinal treatment was thought to be useful for the improvement of the subjective symptom of urination difficulty in patients with Excess-Syndrome.
