Description

We report 2 cases of extraadrenal retroperitoneal paraganglioma in children. One of these cases was symptomatic and the other was asymptomatic. Paraganglioma in children is extremely rare, and its production of catecholamine causes hypertension, headache, and/or acute visual impairment. However, in some cases patients are asymptomatic, and the first sign of disease is an abdominal mass. 131I-metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) sincigram is helpful for diagnosis and detection of metastasis or multilocalization. Total surgical resection is the standard treatment, and the control of blood pressure with α-, β-blocker during the perisurgical period is important. Sometimes we experience recurrence and malignant changes, and there fore, careful long-term follow-up is needed.
