Description
A case of congenital listeriosis was managed successfully through early diagnosis of intrauterine infection by means of the fetal heart rate pattern. The mother was admitted to our hospital with symptoms of slight fever and uterine contraction at the 36th gestational week. The cardiotocogram showed late deceleration. On a diagnosis of intrauterine infection and fetal distress an emergency cesarean section was done on the same day. A male baby was born and congenital listeriosis was suspected due to a low apgar score (1-4), extremely high respiratory pressure and brown colored amniotic fluid. He was intubated and managed with high frequency oscillation (HFO) and injection of ABPC, GM and γ-globulin. He recovered from this condition without any other complication, and was discharged on the 12th day after delivery.
