Thermal convection in a cubic box is studied numerically by use of the fractional step method with 4th order spatial accuracy. In the undisturbed state, the temperature field is conductive, heated at the bottom, whereas the salinity is a linear function of the vertical coordinate, the most dense at the bottom. Time-evolution calculations show that the critical Rayleigh number over which the undisturbed state becomes unstable, increases as nearly the linear function of the salinity Rayleigh number. It is interesting that in the super critical state, the field exhibits oscillating behavior if the Rayleigh number is not far from the critical value, when one convection cell with its axis parallel to the horizontal plane, rotates around the vertical axis.
