説明
1. A phenolic pigment was extracted from baker's yeast. The pigment is slowly autooxidizable, and rapidly oxidized with Rhus-laccase or polyphenol oxidase and reduced by dithionite. 2. The pigment dissolved in ethylether had an absorption peak at 258mμ, shoulders at 289 and 382mμ and a plateau at 450-500mμ. The difference spectrum between oxidized and reduced forms of the pigment showed a wide plateau around 500mμ. 3. The pigment supported the oxygen uptake by reconstructed enzyme system: L-lactate, L-lactate cytochhrome c reductase and Rhuslaccase or polyphenol oxidase. In its absence, no oxygen uptake took place. The pigment was replaced successfully with p-quinone, catechol and menadione, but not with ubiquinone. The sequence of hydrogen transport can be represented: L-lactate → L-lactate cytochrome c reductase → "phenolic pigment" → oxidase → oxygen.
