This paper introduces a mathematical programming approach for a class of work scheduling problems. In the paper, first, the work scheduling problem is defined formally in rather generalized form, and is formulated as a mixed integer programming problem. Besides, the work scheduling problem contains so many parameters concerning the demands of workers as well as the conditions on works. Then, a way of parameter identification adopting mathematical programming approach is designed. Finally, through some computational experiments using practical examples, the effectiveness and the potential of the proposed approach are investigated.
