This paper describes the trade-offs that can be made between three experimental parameters and four aerodynamic coefficients on the non-spinning rugby ball. The three objective functions are the Reynolds number, the angle of attack and the seam angle which represents the position of the seam. The four aerodynamic coefficients are the drag coefficient, the lift coefficient, the side force coefficient and the pitching moment coefficient. The trade-offs are made by using self-organizing maps. It was found that the drag coefficient depends on the angle of attack as well as the Reynolds number. The side force coefficient depends on the angle of attack and the seam angle. The pitching moment coefficient also depends on the angle of attack.
