Abstract
The one-side welding of a thin aluminium plate using EB welding process was investigated comparing with the case of other metals, paying special attention to the welding phenomenon and the welded joint performance. The results are as follows: 1) Highly stable one-side welding of a thin aluminium plate has been established using high accelerating voltage and high speed welding conditions. 2) In the case of the welding of aluminium alloys which contain the metal of high vapor pressure, the bead appearances obtained by stable one-side welding conditions are a little poor. Such appearances can be improved by oscillating the beam in the welding direction. 3) The softened zone becomes very narrow, when the work hardened metals of aluminium and its alloy are welded by EB welding process. This narrow softened zone appears to lower the deformability of welded joint.
