The effects of height h and width w of a reinforcement on the distribution of equi-vector potential lines and leakage flux densities were calculated using FEM in the case of a yoke method. The equi-vector potential lines leaking into the space go into the reinforcement and distribute mainly along the surface of the reinforcement except near a defect. The reinforcement affects the horizontal component B_<xx> and the vertical component B_<zx> of the leakage flux density, and B_<xz> and B_<zx> have the maximum and/or minimum near the edge of the reinforcement. The difference ΔB_x between the maximum and the minimum of B_<xx> decreases when A increases and w decreases. ΔB_x calculated was compared with that measured with a Hall geneator, and a good correspondence was observed between them. Moreover, ΔB_x when the average magnetic flux density B (larger than about 1 T) passing through the specimen and a parameter h/w were changed could be estimated using a regression equation.
