Abstract
In our previous study, it was found that the mean local burning velocity turned out to be changed from the original laminar burning velocity due to the preferential diffusion effect and it's quantitative value was estimated experimentally. In the present study, the configuration and propagation characteristics of premixed turbulent flames in a constant-volume vessel are investigated in the wrinkled laminar flame region. A laser tomography technique is used to obtain the flame shape, and quantitative analyses are performed. The obtained tomograms show that the turbulent flame surface area depends almost only on the turbulence intensity. In addition, the local burning velocities for several mixtures are determined directly from the flame front movement. As a result, the local flame propagation velocities are found to be distributed over a wide range and to be dependent on the local curvature of the turbulent flame.
