説明
We have irradiated different boron carbides with low neutron doses (< 2.5 10<21> captures/cm^3; ie. 2.5% burnup of total boron) in the French Phoenix LMFB reactor. In spite of the low burnups, all the materials show extensive inter-granular cracking, strong lattice distortions and an important contraction (> 1%) of the cell, mainly along the "c" axis. The thermal conductivity of the B_4C's drastically decreases. The elaboration process of the material turns out to be an important parameter : a carbothermal B_4C damages more than a magnesothermal ones. On the other hand, an experimental B_9C material which has considerably lower initial thermal properties comparatively damages much less than a standard B_4C. At last, the contribution of the different damage mechanisms (helium bubbles, inter-granular cracks and cell distortion) are similar at the first steps of the irradiation.
