説明

(1) The subspeciation of Traulia ornata in the Ryukyu Islands and Taiwan was studied. (2) Description of five new subspecies and a key to them were given. New subspecies and localities are as follows : Traulia ornata amamiensis (Amami-Oshima and Toku-no-shima Islands), T. ornata okinawensis (Okinawa Island), T. ornata ishigakiensis (Ishigaki Island), T. ornata iriomotensis (Iriomote Island), and T. ornata yonaguniensis (Yonaguni Island). (3) The morphological and colour differences among subspecies appears mainly in the wing type and in the coloration of apical half of hind tibiae, and a little in the other parts of body. In addition to these, it was recognized that there is a high tendency of specialization in iriomotensis. (4) The distribution in the Ryukyu Islands has a close relationship to the geological history of the islands. The distributional pattern of Traulia shows probable absence of this group of insects on raised coral islands of recent origin. It is considered that the immigration of Traulia into the Ryukyu Islands would have been made before the appearance of these coral islands. (5) The nominate subspecies ornata may be an immigrant from the Chinese continent, and the subspecies of Amami=Okinawa Group may also come directly from the continent. On account of the earliest isolation of Amami=Okinawa Group in the Ryukyus, Traulia in this area generally has primitive characters and shows a close similarity to the nominate subspecies. On the other hand, the Yayeyama subspecies group seems to be the descendant from the Taiwanese population. Its change through the geographical isolation may have been 'typostrophic', especially in iriomotensis.
