Abstract

We are performing a series of numerical experiments on the large-scale vortices in Jupiter's atmosphere using a three-dimensional model based on the primitive equation model of Boussinesq fluid. In a standard case, the emergence of small scale instability waves and the gradual development into a coherent vortex resembling Great Red Spot are reproduced. We also examine sensitivity of the behavior of simulated vortices to the forcing mechanism of the zonal jets by including momentum and/or heat source with various damping time that maintain initial zonal wind speed and/or thrmal structure. We find that the behavior of simulated votices depend on the type and damping times of forcing.
