Abstract

In a smoking room, equipped with smoke-isolation apparatus and a ventilation fan, three kinds of samples (ordinary vinyl cloth, stain-resistant vinyl cloth, and cloth used for the interior of automobiles) were installed on the wall. Each sample plate was removed at an interval of four weeks to measure the color difference with a chroma meter. Subsequently, the smell desorbed by the samples was analyzed with a three-point comparison-type smell-bag method and by instrumental analysis. ΔE*ab increased until the 20th week, after which the change was small. The odor concentration was the highest during the 8th to the 12th week, and the difference was seen in the peak time for the odor and the odor concentration of the three samples.
