Description
Tire tread vibration and pipe resonance in tread grooves of tire are major factors of tire/road noise generation. As these phenomena are caused simultaneously, it is not easy to obtain the relationship between each phenomenon and noise generation. In this study, the experiments on test drum were performed by using the trial manufacture tire in order to obtain detailed information on the noise generation by the tread vibration and the pipe resonance. The results are as follows : 1) there is a obvious relation between the tread vibration and generated noise when pipe resonance is not generated. 2) In case of rib tire, the noise is generated by obvious pipe resonance in tread groove when frequency of tread vibration corresponds to that of pipe resonance. 3) The pipe resonance frequency of rib tire is lower than the frequency calculated using the value of contact length.
