Abstract

A recent measurement result (Tomiyasu et al. 2000) has shown that mercury is spreading around Minamata Bay. To realize the characteristics of currents in Minamata Bay during summer season, numerical simulation using Princeton Ocean Model was performed. In order to calibrate the numerical results, in suite measurements on tidal current by means of ADCP was executed in Minamata Bay. Result of calibration, the tidal current in Minamata Bay was almost reproduced. The change of the tidal current due to the artificial topography change became clear by the numerical result of Minamata Bay.
