Description

Tunnel entrance hoods have been installed at many portals of Shinkansen tunnels for reducing micro-pressure wave. It is necessary to reduce the maximum value of the pressure gradient of the compression wave at tunnel exit for reducing the micro-pressure wave because it is approximately proportional to the micro-pressure wave. Recently two types of simulation methods have been developed independently: one for prediction of a compression wave generated by a train entering a tunnel with an entrance hood and the other for prediction of a distortion process of the compression wave propagating through the tunnel. Combining the two methods can predict an optimum window pattern of the hood to minimize the maximum value of the pressure gradient at long tunnel exit with due consideration for distortion process of the compression wave. Results of the field test described in this paper clarify the optimum window pattern of the hood predicted by this combined technique for minimizing the micro-pressure wave.
