説明
For the production of blast furnace coke at the Imperial Steel Works, large quantities of coal have to be washed, and by this process about 175,000 tons of washery waste are produced per year. In order to reduce the production cost of coke, it is important and necessary to utilize this waste. Having this object in view, the author began the manufacture of egg-shaped briquettes with it in 1917, using pitch as a binder, and in 1923 the production of brick-shaped briquettes with rewashed coal, waste and pitch was undertaken. As recent as year 1924 clean coal was separated from the waste by the oil floatation process. The cleaned coal so obtained is now used as raw material for coke manufacture. Thus a saving was effected of about 0.19 Yen per ton of coal or about 190,000 Yen per year. These processes for the treatment of washery waste can be applied with successful results to many other collieries, where washing plants have been started in recent years. Thus it is quite clear that coal can be used more efficiently.
