Description

This paper contributes primarily towards the distribution of the carpenter bees in Japan and the Ryukyus. Four species of Xylocopa, as shown in Fig. 4, i. e., Xylocopa appendiculata circumvolans, Xylocopa amamensis, Xylocopa flavifrons, and Xylocopa albinotum, are found, all of which belong to the subgenus Alloxylocopa. They are separable by the following key.
