Description

Objective: In order to elucidate whether the compatibility of HLA antigens between spouses is implicated in the genesis of preeclampsia or not. Methodology: Thirty-five patients with severe preeclampsia and their husbands were examined for HLA-A, -B, and -C antigens. These antigens were typed by the standard microlymphocytotoxicity technique. Twenty-two patients and their husbands were examined for HLA-DR genotypes by means of PCR-RFLP method. Thirty-four normal fertile couples were examined for HLA-A, -B and -C antiges, and 21 couples were examined for HLA-DR genotypes. The number of shared antigens in patient couples was compared with that in control couples. Results: The number of shared antigens in HLA-A, -B and -C locuses was not significantly different between the two groups. That in HLA-DR genotypes was neither different between the two groups. Conclusion: It is suggested that the compatibility of HLA-antigens between spouses is not involved in the genesis of the preeclampsia.
