抄録

We investigated the instability of the Stewartson layer attached to the wall experimentally by using a cylinder whose bottom disk and cylindrical wall rotate differentially. We found two types of instabilities in the boundary layer according to the difference of the rotation rate between the bottom and the wall. When the difference is small, we found a single layer of vortices parallel to the bottom disk in one layer. When the difference is large, we found a double layer of vortices in which the slopes of the vortices are opposite in the two layers.
