Description

A lava flow simulation program is written aiming for analyses of the formation of volcanoes. As a first step, a Bingham flow model with square mesh reported by Ishihara et al. is implemented and basic calculations are performed to understand the validity and applicability of their method. Three types of basic planes are modeled; horizontal plane (Model 1), slope inclined parallel to the square mesh (Model 2) and slope inclined diagonal to the mesh (Model 3). The result show that the shapes of lava depend seriously on the mesh direction, i.e., lava spreads easier to the direction parallel to the square mesh than diagonal to the mesh. This tendency is remarkable when a extrusion rate of lava is slow.
