Description

Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a genetic disorder characterized by short stature, hypomentia and retardation of maxillofacial growth. Many patients have benefited since the administration of growth hormones (GH) to treat PWS was first implemented in 2002, but no reports have been published on the effects on maxillofacial development in PWS patients. We thus herein present our findings regarding the case of a male patient aged 8 years 1 month who visited our hospital complaining of anterior crossbite and crowding. He was short in stature and had an SD score below? 1, and presented with asymmetry and progenia. After 1 year 10 months of orthodontic therapy, the patient's occlusion improved. PWS is characterized by socially problematic behavior caused by personality dysfunctions after puberty, and we believe that orthodontic therapy at an early stage is important in PWS patients with malocclusion.
