Influence of Gas-Tungsten-Arc Electrode Material on AC TIG Arc Welding :

Search this article

Description

The influence of tungsten electrode material of the arc phenomenon and the weldability of AC TIG arc welding method aiming at current waveform and EN ratio are investigated. In welding of aluminium using inverter controlled power supply, when the EN ratio is set at around 95%, melting deformation of electrode tip is little and welding stability is high, but sufficient cleaning action cannot be obtained. Meanwhile, concentration of arc is reduced when EN ratio is set at around 80%. Under the EN ratio of about 68% which produces relatively good welding results, the influence of electrode material on the welding result is less in case of using inverter controlled power supply than when using thyristor controlled power supply. In the meantime, stable welding result can be obtained by using CeO_2 (1~2%)-W or Lo_2O_3 (1%)-W with either of the two types of power supply.
