Description
The importance of the timing to inform the parents that their child has trisomy-21 is generally recognized. The purpose of this study was to evaluate differences as a result of timing in informing parents about a child's abnormality. We studied 38 patients with trisomy-21 (mean ago : 5.6Y : range 3 months to 26 years), 16 cases with congenital heart disease (group A), 22 cases without congenital heart disease (group B). The timing of information in all cases was 1 day to 120 days (mean 27.9 days). The distribution of the child's age when parents we re informed was: 1st-7th day 42%, 8th-14th day 16%, 15th-30th day 13%, 31st-60th day 13%. The timing of information was earlier in group A than in group B.
