Description

Water is highly lossy media for ground penetrating radar (GPR). A band near 500MHz is most commonly used, because the surveys behind concrete structures have many demands and targetted depth is at 1 to 2 metres. It is known that lower frequencies give more penetration to electromagnetic wave even in water. But attenuation properties at lower frequency bands are not easily measured. We have tried to measure the attenuation coefficients of water with good approximation at some frequencies between 25MHz and 400MHz by use of GPR itself. The experiment has been carried out on a lake, and the values have been subslantially figured out.
