Description

Using a number of off-the-shelf workstations, we have developed an experimental parallel IP router called "CORErouter-I". It is a real-time parallel processing system where computing resources and network interfaces are combined using a scaleable switch. It processes routing protocol and handles packet forwarding among the computing resources. This paper introduces the design and the implementation of the experimental router and shows that the router using workstation cluster can perform 80 Mbps packet forwarding and can avoid the problems caused by the state of the link changing at short intervals, which is known as route flapping.
