Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to propose a new and simple method for proportioning longitudinal and transverse reinforcement of multi-story flexural walls in a high-rise building. The approach is consisted of two phases. The first phase is to determine the load-deformation curve of a wall by a static nonlinear analysis assuming the wall as a cantilever with the height from the bottom to the inflection point, which is derived from a preliminary linear time-history analysis of the building. The static nonlinear analysis is based on the material stress-strain properties. Enhancement of load and deformation capacities by confinement of concrete is taken into consideration. The second phase is providing and detailing longitudinal and transverse reinforcement based on a required load and deformation capacities of the wall. The proposed method is applied to a 30-story building with four L-section core walls at the center to provide the wall with the required load and deformation capacities.
