Description

A relatively unusual case of an extensively avulsed facial injury with multiple facial fractures caused by a dynamite accident was encountered. The injury reached from the left orbit to the mandible. The definitive operation was undertaken primarily. The normal midface projection and height were reconstructed satisfactorily by correct reduction, and by the combined interosseous wiring and Kirschner's pin fixation of the comminuted fractured bones without bone grafting, although some degree of malocclusion was recorrected secondarily with a dental splint, and a nylon implant was inserted into the left orbit instead of the removed eyeball. Similar case reports were referred to in literature. Several discussions about the treatment of such an avulsed facial injury with bone fractures were also conducted.
