説明
This paper concerns the injection of steroid hormone as glucocorticoid into Wistar strain male rats and its effects on the ultrastructure of the muscles of the lower limbs. Two kinds of the muscular tissues were used for the test; proximal and distal muscle. A dose of 0.1mg/Kg/day of dexamethasone was injected for periods of 17, 20 and 21 weeks. Their body weight finally decreased by more than 40% and the decrease ratio of the proximal muscle weight per body weight was also high. However, the food intake was more than that of the control group. Among the abdominal cavity organs, the adrenal glands showed the greatest decrease. In this experiment we hardly recognized any light microscopical atrophy images of the proximal and distal muscle fibers. The result most often observed was increases in glycogen particles and lipid droplets, but no quantitative results were indicated. An increase of mitochondrial space was indicated quantitatively : the average ratio measured for two kinds of proximal muscle was 6.81 and 11.0% (5.03 and 7.40% for the control group) and that for two kinds of distal muscle was 8.67 and 10.72% (5.62 and 3.25% for the control group) respectively. Furthermore, it was suggested that metabolism is accelerated by steroid hormone. This is especially evident in anerobic metabolism. Few ultrastructural changes have been found in the intramuscular membrane system which is related to E-C coupling.
