Description
In this paper, two theoretical problems of durational closure are examined. The first one is concerning the latent durational archetypes. Following the theory of melodic archetype by E. Narmour, I found the three basic patterns of process and six derivative closure patterns of durational archetypes. The second theoretical problem is the contradiction between two different closures ; short to long note accent (closure) and the closure as changing point of long to short notes. This contradiction would be resolved when ranking of durational closure were introduced into the Narmourian theory of music structure.
