Description

Steganography is a technique to hide a secret message in some other data such as an image. The principle to hide the message is to discard the redundant bits in the image and embed the secret message there without damaging the image quality. This technique makes it extremely difficult for a third party to detect the secret. The intended recipient of the message can easily restore the secret by using the restoring program. Our new steganography scheme is to embed a secret file in a dummy image after we have segmented the image into "significant regions" and "noisy regions." This segmentation is based on a local complexity measure of the dummy image. By using our technique we could embed text data (TEXT file), color photos (JPEG file) , as well as home-page hard copies (including GIF file) in one 512×512 color image data (BMP file). The quality of the image remained good enough to disguise the eyes of the people around us.
