Description

As one of the applications on B-ISDN in the near future, distributed video systems for movies or some TV programs re expected to emerge with a large demand for their services. Particularly some kinds of on-demand type services are more desirable such that viewers can request their own favourite programs at their convenient time with more various personal ways of life today. As for on-demand services, there exist Video on Demand (VoD) systems such s Full-VoD, Near-VoD. However, they haven't spread widely yet because of their inefficient cost for communication resources and storage resources. In our research, we aim at an efficient VoD system based on high speed network. We focus on the forms of data transmission, and propose a new VoD system. The proposed system aggressively utilizes multicast and devides the program resource data into mass block files and transmits them to the viewer treminals as a burst traffic via high speed network. We extract the essential function of both the server and client. Furthermore, protocols between server and client are studies.
