Description

The Germfree ward of Tokai University Hospital consists of seven rooms, which differ somewhat from one another in specifications and application. Germfree rooms A are kept at class 100 by a Hepa filter and horizontal laminar flow for patients with acute Ieukemia or immunodeficiencies and ordinary examinations and nursing are carried out through vinyl curtains. Germfree rooms C and D are also kept at class 100 and are used for patients after renal transplantation or those with burns for whom doctors and nurses must enter the room to perform treatment. Each room faces the visitor's corridor and the patients can meet their families any time through the visitor's window and also enjoy the view outside to reduce the patient's psychological burden. We are discussing what degree of germfree treatment can practically produce the intended therapeutic effects for various diseases and what type of room is convenient for examinations and nursing.
