Description
Mean periods of the noisy van der Pol oscillator forced by a sinusoidal input are studied in detail. It is shown that noise breaks the phase lockings of the oscillator and accelerates or decelerates the oscillator. The novel definition of stochastic phase lockings using spectra (eigenvalues and eigenfunctions) of a Markov operator which is a natural extention of the deterministic (noise-free) Poincare map is presented and the validity of this definition is verified.
