Description
This paper describes the new supervisory and maintenance technology for long-haul optical submarine cable systems using optical amplifier repeaters. This technology does not need electric circuit such as optoelectronic conversion circuits or processing circuits in the repeater. The supervisory activity can be performed with routine in-service monitoring function and out-of-service fault location of line facilities, and the effective supervisory and maintenance expedient that was not able to make it in regenerative repeater system as before has been realized. In addition we address a postscript about studies going of line supervisory and maintenance techniques by all-optical processing for the future cable system.
