Description

The Consumer Information Processing (CIP) Paradigm assumes that a consumer makes various choices to satisfy her goals, under constraint of limited processing capacity. The characteristics and roles of memory and decision rules are analyzed in light of individual differences and situational influences. Next, the Elaboration Likelihood Model is introduced as a synthesis of various models of attitude change, in relation to the information-processing perspectives. Finally, it is proposed to incorporate "nonverbal" aspects such as imagery and feelings into the CIP that has been criticized to be biased toward cognitive, and goal-directed aspects of human behavior.
