Description

This paper is a detail report on functional expressions of definition sentences in Japanese language dictionaries. The functional expression occers at the tail of the definition sentence and contains the relational information (ρ_<FE>) assigning the semantic relation between the entry word and the definition word. Here the definition word is the core word in the definition sentence. We found about 1,500 definition sentences containing functional expressions from 10,000 definition sentences in Shinmeikai-kokugojiten (sanseido). We also refer to other similar Japanese language dictionaries. Findings are shown in the table I, II and III together at the end of this paper.
