Description
This study aimed at examining the anxiety in the process of individuation (self-realization) in adolescence so as to be a pilot study. After reviewing previous studies, two types of anxiety were hypothesized ; namely "individuation anxiety" (anxiety of being abondoned by one's society) and "socialization anxiety" (anxiety of being engulfed in one's society). Three types [Q1a, Q1b, Q2] of questionnair were administered to 514 undergraduates. The results indicated the following. Most of all students wanted to realize (or develop) more of his own "identity". [Q1a] It seemed that each description of their "identity" could be sorted into several groups. [Q1b] Not a few students felt individuation anxiety and socialization one, and the level of both types of anxiety increased through years of undergraduate. [Q2] Problem of the definition of "identity", problem of a questionnaire method to anxiety study, and possibility of clinical interview method to study of anxiety in adolescence etc. were discussed in conclusion.
