Widespread damage to building foundations occurred in the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu earthquake. In particular, there was a great deal of destruction to pile head connections, and methods of joining rigid pile heads were reviewed. The development of construction methods using semi-rigid pile head connections was carried out after the earthquake disaster. In this research, a wooden block was inserted into the pile head periphery. In a series of three experiments, using a 1:5 scale model, the performance of this method was compared with the conventional method. As a result, there was no damage to pile heads and foundations, and the rigidity of the pile head joint was reduced.
