A man of 44,with a 16-year history of epileptic attacks due to head injury and srug abuse, was admitted to a hospital due to his complaint of insomnia. His subjective and objective symptoms included headache, stiffshoulder, anxiety attacks, irritability, thirst, perspiration, polyuria and polydipsia. The water deprivation test showed a decrease in urinary volume and a rise in urinary specific gravity and osmolality. Also, the hypertonic saline infuction test revealed a decline in urinary volume and a rise in urinary specific gravity. Concerning psychological aspects, it was learned that he had some conflicts in his job and family life, and that his polydipsia and polyuria were aggravated by such emotional upsets. On the basis of these examinations in clinical and psychological problems, the patients was diagnosed as psychogenic polydipsia. The patients was treated by minor tranquilizer in addition to brief psychotherapy, and his symptoms mostly disappeared. In this peper, emphasized the importance of polydipsia which could be fluvtuated by emotinal upsets.
