Description
This paper presents a method of analyzing Japanese notorious noun phrases of "A NO (postposition) B". Similar to verbs and adjectives, nouns can have a tight relationship with some concepts, which can be called obligate cases. Obligate cases for nouns are well described in ordinal dictionaries, and such information can be utilized in the semantic analysis of "A NO B" phrases. That is, given an input phrase, definition sentences of "B″are retrieved, and then "A" is tried to correspond to words in those sentences. If there is a similar word to "A" in the sentences, the correspondence can be regarded as the analysis result of the input phrase. We illustrate the effectiveness of this method by the analysis of 250 noun phrases.
