Description
Recently, many topologies and control methods of power-factor- correcting(PFC)converters have been reported to realize a high power factor and to decrease higherharmonic distortion. In the PFC converters,an large electrolytic capacitor is usually used at the output terminals.Due to the ripple current and the equivalent series resistance(ESR),the electrolytic capacitor is heated, which shorten its life time. This paper presents an analysis of the ripple current of the electrolytic capacitor for a boost-type PFC converter in detail. The ripple current is divided into two components:low-frequency and high-frequency components. The analysis is well confirmed by experiments.
