Description

Radiowave attenuation due to raindrops on Ku-band(BS,12 GHz)and Ka-band(CS,20 GHz)satellite-to-ground paths has been continuously observed at Osaka ElectroCommunication University in Neyagawa city. The characteristics at both frequency bands are discussed in relateion to the cross-polarized phase simultaneously obtained at the Ka-band.The Attenuation ratio of the Ka-band to the Ku-band is distributed around 2.0-4.0 in yearly statistics or average values of each event. This ratio is found to be well correlated with the distribution of cross-polarized phases, and also in good agreement with the predictions using representative raindrop size distribution models.
