Description
A theoretical approach has been utilized to analyze the membrane transport system that involves both active and passive transport mechanism. The system was simplified to 3 spaces, external world of cell, intra membrane and inside of cell. The basic time courses of amount of particle in the external world and intra membrane were insensitive to changes in passive transport rate. The change within membrane, however, was influenced considerably both by passive and active transport. The amount of the optimal control for active transport was influenced seriously by changes in the active transport rate as the optimal control. This effect was manifested particularly in the transport from inside of cell to the intra membrane space. Present theory is available for evaluation of the the relative importance between passive and active transport in biological membrane.
