Description

Organic crystals have not been so extensively researched as compared with poled polymers in fields of nonlinear optics, because of difficulty in their growth and process. We have proposed EO-modulated optical devices using organic crystal cored fibers. Here, we confirmed the EO effect using crystal cored fibers of DMNP(3, 5-dimethyl-1-(nitrophenyl)pyrazole) which was fabricated by Bridgman-Stockbarger method. For 632.8nm light we measured the maximum component r23 of the Pockels coefficient by applying a.c. voltage of 1.5kHz. The measured value was 19pm/V which was well coincident with the theoretically predicted value from the two-level model. We are trying to reduce the half-wave voltage by polishing cladding parts.
