Description
A high efficiency amplifier works as a power converter from DC to RF. When an RF signal is inputted from the output side of the high efficiency amplifier, this high efficiency amplifier also works as a high efficiency rectifier that converts a power from RF to DC, by adjusting the input-side circuit of the amplifier. The similarity between amplifier and rectifier has been explained based on an ideal class-E operation as an example. In addition, at operation frequencies of 2.45 GHz and 5.8 GHz, high efficiency amplifiers and rectifiers using the same types of GaAs HEMTs and drain-side harmonic treatment circuits have been fabricated and evaluated to verify both the amplifier and rectifier operations.
